Check out the Cascade Mountain Tech:

1. Set Up

To set up this chair, follow these steps:

  1. Undo the drawstring on the carry bag, and release the cinch strap.
  2. Stand the chair upright and locate its four corners.
  3. Grab two opposite corners and pull them away from each other until fully open.

Tip: The back shock-cord prevents the chair from popping out of the frame during setup.

Setup time: ~12 seconds

2. Pack Away

To pack away the chair, follow these steps:

  1. Grab two opposite corners again and pull everything together.
  2. Place the chair feet first into the carry bag.
  3. Stand upright and shake the rest of the fabric back inside.

Pack away time: ~19 seconds (including getting it back into the bag)

3. Unfolded Dimensions

As for the unfolded dimensions, here’s what I measured:

  • Width: 21.75in (55.2cm) from armrest to armrest
  • Depth: 22.5in (57.2cm) from back of chair to front of seat
  • Height: 22.5in (57.2cm) from ground to top

4. Seat Size

Now, if you want more detailed seat measurements, here is everything to know.

  • Total seat width: 19.25in (48.9cm)
  • Seat depth: 13.75in (34.9cm)
The seat width of the Cascade Camp Chair.
It’s not a super big seat, but it was more than enough space for me.

The marketed width is 20 inches, but the actual seat is just a tad smaller at 19.25 inches. For someone of my height (I’m 5’3”/160cm53kg/117lbs), it was perfectly comfortable and more than enough space.

5. Seat Height

As for seat height, there is a gentle slope from the front of the seat to the bottom:

  • Front seat height: 8in (20.3cm)
  • Actual seat height: 2.75in (7.0cm)
The seat height of the Cascade Camp Chair.
The chair slouches for more than 5 inches.

This is nice and low enough for me to stretch my legs out really comfortably around a campfire compared to higher chairs.

6. Backrest

Now, for the backrest height and width:

  • Backrest height: 19in (48.3cm)
  • Backrest width: 19.2in (48.8cm)
  • Recline angle: 21 degrees
The author is leaning on the backrest of the Cascade Camp Chair.
This covers almost my entire back, but doesn’t give any neck support at all.

7. Breathability

Here’s the breakdown on ventilation and mesh:

  • Mesh Coverage: ~38% of total surface area calculated.
  • Width: 10in (51.9%)
  • Length: 24in (73.8%)
The mesh of the Cascade Camp Chair.
This provides a decent amount of mesh for summer use, though it isn’t fully mesh like some high-back options.

8. Armrests

Next, we look at armrest features:

  • Material: Slightly padded with thin padding layer.
  • Adjustability: Non-adjustable and slanted downwards.
  • Comfort: Not super high quality, will start to fray and peel after a while.
The armrest of the Cascade Camp Chair.
The armrests are slanted and non adjustable.
The armrest padding of the Cascade Camp Chair.
The armrests are functional, but the thin padding isn’t durable over long-term use.

9. Materials & Quality

Here is what I found regarding build quality:

  • Fabric: Polyester (no denier rating specified).
  • Poles: Mix of steel and aluminum. Front poles ~0.63in thick, side armrest poles ~0.89in thick.
  • Welding: Rivets are simple, but stitching was good all around without loose threads.
  • Weight Capacity: 250lbs (113kg).

The feet are wide and stable, ensuring the chair doesn’t tip easily during use.

10. Portability

For portability, the packed size dimensions come in at:

  • Chair weight: 6.2lbs (~2.8kg)
  • Bag weight: 0.34lbs (5.4oz / ~0.15kg)
  • Total weight: 6.54lbs (~3.0kg) (Half a pound lighter than the marketed 7lbs)
  • Packed size: 27.5in x 7.25in x 7in (70cm x 18cm x 18cm)

11. Warranty

Cascade Mountain Tech provides coverage for this model:

  • Warranty Type: Limited Warranty
  • Duration: 1 year only

This warranty is very short compared to competitors like ALPS Mountaineering which offers a lifetime warranty on similar chairs.

12. Pros & Cons

Now, what are the pros and cons based on my testing? I compared this chair to the ALPS Mountaineering Rendezvous across all specific metrics found in the table below.

Main DifferencesALPS RendezvousCascade Folding
Price (MSRP)$59.99$39.99
Set Up12-22 seconds12 seconds
Pack Away20 seconds19 seconds
Seat Size20.4 x 14.5in19.3 x 13.8in
Seat Height4.0in2.75in
Weight Limit300lbs.250lbs.
WarrantyLifetime1 year

The Cascade is more than 30% less in price at $39.99 MSRP compared to the ALPS Rendezvous ($59.99). This makes it one of my least expensive camping chairs tested, and a huge pro for budget buyers.

For setup, it takes ~12 seconds, which is generally quite easy. The pack away timing (~19s) is very slightly faster than the ALPS Rendezvous. Unlike some competitors, the back shock-cord prevents the chair from popping out of the frame during setup.

The biggest con here is that the marketed seat height of 5 inches was a little overstated; when I sat down, the seat sank by almost 3 inches, leaving it at ~2.75in actual sit height.

The warranty is very short, coming in at just 1 year, whereas the ALPS offers a lifetime warranty.

Overall Recommendation

The Cascade Mountain Tech Camp Chair is a great chair if you are looking for an affordable, low camp chair that sits very low to the ground so that you can stretch your legs around the campfire.
