ENO Lounger DL Chair Review (Bought & Tested!)

ENO Lounger DL Chair Review
This is my review of the ENO Lounger DL Chair. I tested it to see if its extra features justify the higher price tag over cheaper models like the ALPS Mountaineering Rendezvous.

Quick Summary: If you’re looking for a low campfire chair that you can lounge in, this ENO Lounger DL Chair is definitely the best one out there. It features 2 adjustable heights, the tallest backrest I’ve tested on a chair, and an in-built pillow.

Check out the ENO Lounger DL Chair:

1. Set Up

To set up this chair, follow these steps:

  1. Locate the shock-cording on poles to guide placement.
  2. Insert all leg poles into sockets at an angle; arrows on poles indicate they go in LAST.
  3. Grab the fabric, locate the pillow with the ENO logo at the top of the chair.
  4. Secure the longer poles to the pole pockets in the back, then secure the bottom pole pockets to the short front poles.

Setup time: ~1 min 25 seconds

2. Pack Away

To pack away the chair, follow these steps:

  1. Remove the chair fabric and lay it on the ground.
  2. Break down poles; ensure the shock cording is fully threaded into the slot in the chair hubs to reduce pressure.
  3. Place poles near the built-in pillow, roll tightly, and pack into the bag.

Pack away time: ~2 minutes

3. Updated Re-Design

In late 2024, ENO redesigned the chair to address setup complexity and bag tightness. Here’s how the new version compares to my older model:

Timing Comparison (Old vs New)

FeatureOld Version2024 New Design
Setup Time1 min 30s~1 min
Pack Away2 mins~1 min 20s
Triangle PolesManual SetupFixed in Place (No setup)

The new design fixes the triangle poles at the bottom, saving about 30 seconds on setup. The carry bag is also significantly larger now to accommodate this change, making packing much easier compared to the tight side-loading opening of the old version.

4. Unfolded Dimensions

As for the unfolded dimensions, here’s what I measured:

  • Width: 29in (73.7cm) from armrest-to-armrest, including cupholder
  • Length: 35.5in (90.2cm) from back of chair to front of seat
  • Height: 37.25in (94.6cm) from ground to top of chair

5. Seat Size

Now, if you want more detailed seat measurements, here’s the info for the seat size:

  • Average seat width: 21in (53.3cm)
  • Seat depth: 16.5in (41.9cm)

6. Seat Height

The ENO Lounger has adjustable legs that change the seating profile significantly between High and Low modes:

7. Adjustable Legs

The ENO Lounger DL features removable legs that allow you to switch between High and Low seating positions, giving the chair significant versatility compared to fixed-height competitors. Here’s how to adjust them for Low mode:

  1. Locate the four leg poles at the bottom of the chair frame.
  2. Pull each leg pole out of its socket.
  3. Fully thread the shock-cording through the slot in the chair hub to reduce pressure on the cord during removal.
  4. Fold each foot under the frame and snap it onto the nearest triangle pole using the small gap in the chair foot for leverage.

Tip: Do not sit directly on these leg poles, or they may break. Only sit on the main seat fabric.

This is super comfy for stretching your legs out and taking a nap.

8. Backrest & Pillow

The backrest height covers my entire back and extends past the head (I’m 5’3”/160cm), but the pillow is non-adjustable, so it’s only the tip of my head touching.

  • Backrest height:  25.1in (63.8cm)
  • Backrest width: 16.75in (42.5cm)
  • Recline angle:  ~42 degrees (very reclined)

I’m a bit short (5’3/160cm), so only the tip of my head touches the pillow.

9. Mesh & Drainage

My model doesn’t have any mesh (0% coverage).

  • Holes: Four holes at the bottom are for water drainage, not ventilation.
  • Fabric: Not too thick, so it didn’t trap heat; the fabric feels breathable enough.

A full mesh version is available if you run hot.

10. Armrests

One feature this chair has is armrests with much more padding than the rest of the chair.

It doesn’t look like it, but the armrests are built in at the sides.

11. Storage

As for storage, here are the details:

  • Cupholder4.25in x 4in (10.8cm x 10.2cm), you can fit mugs and even up to a 1-liter Nalgene.
  • 2 Cargo pockets (1 on each side): 11.5 x 8.25in (29.2 x 21.0cm)

12. Materials & Quality

As for materials, the build quality is generally solid:

  • Frame: A triangle frame at the bottom added for stability (better than single-bar lightweight chairs)
  • Fabric: The tested model was 210D ripstop nylon; the newer version uses 300D ripstop polyester
  • Poles: 6061 anodized aluminum (0.75in / 1.9cm thick)
  • Joints: High-grade plastic pole joints
  • Stitching: Great all around, no loose threads found

13. Portability

As for portability, the carry bag has an adjustable shoulder strap:

  • Chair weight: 4.8lbs (2.2kg)
  • Bag weight: 0.26lbs (0.15kg) / ~4 ounces
  • Total weight: 5 lbs (2.3kg)
  • Packed size: 24in x 7.5in x 6in (Old Version). The newer version is significantly larger due to fixed triangle poles (~1 lb heavier total).

14. Warranty

ENO provides your typical warranty coverage on this chair:

  • Warranty Type: 2-year limited warranty
  • Coverage: Standard for the brand, covers defects and frame integrity over time.

15. Best Low Camp Chair? – Pros and Cons

Now, how does this ENO Lounger compare to other low camp chairs?

You can sit just 3.6in (9cm) off the ground in low mode or use removable legs to prop up to 9.5in (24.1cm) for high mode.

Features a tall backrest (31in / 78.7cm) with an in-built pillow that’s soft and comfy. Compared to the Alps Rendezvous, this chair has neck support, while they only have up to the neck.

You get a slight swaying hammock motion when you rock gently; very comfortable for lounging, which is not available on typical rigid camp chairs.

I could gently rock myself, and it was very comfortable.

You also get much higher-quality materials with the Lounger.

At $150, it’s about double the price of most budget chairs like the Alps Rendezvous ($70) or Cascade Mountain Tech. Value improves significantly if bought on sale (I paid $112).

Takes roughly 4 to 5 times longer to set up compared to budget options. Budget chairs open like a typical camp chair in seconds; this one requires assembling poles and fabric pockets (~1 min vs ~12 sec).
